This 2009 photograph of Seneca and her foal, Jesse James, shows the strong bonds within family bands. Since I took this photo the band stallion, Admiral, was killed by a drunk driver on the paved highway that runs through Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. Jesse James was a bachelor stallion at the time, but he returned to protect his family until Hickok took over the band. Jesse James now has his own family.
