In 2009 band stallion Baja had just chased away a marauding stallion. In the aftermath a newborn foal lay dead - - maybe trampled during the stallion battle. The mares stood over the lifeless body of the foal, their heads hung low - - keening, while Baja stood vigil at a distance. He had a band of loyal mares until 2017, then lived as a senior bachelor until 2019, the last time he was sited.
